The new Fire Safety Order which became effective from the 1st of October 2006, applies to all workplace premises in England and Wales. It requires the 'responsible person' for a building to conduct a risk assessment of the potential risk of fire and take steps to reduce or remove them. Obviously for an untrained person this is a daunting prospect. It can be time consuming and might not meet the legal requirements.
